How Can I Tell Her?

A Sonnet
By Marco Matthew Belarmino
Grade 9 - Mercy

Why do we confess love to each other?
Because it’s how we show our love at night.
We exchange promises to each other.
I slept and dreamt of great love in my life.
When love was first introduced, it was light.
It was a light that came upon my bed.
I think about it every day and night.
The love we share is big, soft, nice, and red.
I found love the first time you and I met.
You were the one my heart wanted to tell.
I wanted to confess to you and let
You know that when I first saw you, I fell.
My deep love for you could be something great.
I will love you no matter it takes.

Waiting for a Friend

A Sonnet by Lilian Ruth Joyce Cutang
Grade  9 - Mercy

It’s been a long day without you, my friend.
I cannot wait until we meet again.
I don’t want to give up until the end,
For I don’t want this to happen again.
We go through mountains, but we stay the same.
I do not know what will happen to us.
When we are in trouble, you take the blame.
I should’ve done the same, but chose the bus.
You treat me like a sister than a friend.
You are different than others over there.
I will wait for you because you’re my friend.
When I feel down, you are always right there.
Yesterday, tomorrow, even today,
I will wait for you, for I feel okay.

I Have a Friend

A Sonnet by Angellie NiƱal
Grade 9 - Mercy

I have a best friend, a true friend indeed.
She is not perfect, but she completes me.
When I am worried, she is all I need.
When my world turns dark, she is all I see.
Time passes by and memories can fade.
We live life like there’s no tomorrow.
Time is fast; we can only live a day
And walk, even though the road is narrow.
She travelled far, I’m going to miss her.
I am going to wait for her through time.
I miss her because she is my sister.
We do silly things, just like solving crimes.
We have been through the darkest times of life,
That is why I made it all through the night.

Glowing Minds

A Sonnet by Shawn Zachary Pantojan
Grade 9 - Mercy

The sky is light, but I sit in darkness.
Days, weeks, months have passed since I have seen you,
You left me; now I sit in emptiness.
I’m grieving for what I have done to you.
You went to a place where you can’t come back.
Sit and think my gloomy past would come back,
Wondering what I did to deserve that.
I can only see your face in my mind,
Your glowing eyes, filled with love and delight.
A laugh joyous as yours is hard to find.
I think of good times when I sleep at night.
I’m lucky that I fell in love with you.
I have my memories to comfort you.

Kirk, My Friend

A Sonnet by Aldefelkem Morales
Grade 9 - Mercy

Kirk always helps me with all my problems;
Teaches me in every situation.
You and I are searching for an emblem.
You listen to me, my motivation.
I am always there for you, Kirk, my friend.
You’re always there for me no matter what.
If you saw another friend, it would end.
If you changed your attitude, I will not.
I’m always there for you; I will not leave.
Ever since we met, we’ve been good buddies.
Everything I learned from you is the best.
Here in the Philippines, there are ladies.
I am the true friend you can always trust.
Shawn, Marco, and I—you can trust in us.

Remembering

A Sonnet by Maria Theresa Codilla
Grade 9 - Mercy

The sunrise shines so bright in the morning.
It makes me want to wake up so early.
It motivates me to do anything.
It makes me want to see my family.
They are the ones who help me with problems.
Parents teach me how to be tough in life.
Brothers are giants, just like golems.
Problems, I discovered, help me to strive.
Now I am so far, I miss them so much.
My future adventure, I want to see.
Every day, I hope we are still in touch.
Now I am waiting, sipping a hot tea.
After ten years, this will be my future
And I’ll discover some great adventure.

Lies

A Sonnet by Rhoda Maribojoc
Grade 9 - Mercy

Love is like a game: you win or you lose.
Follow the lies and you will seek the truth.
Like a soft toy that was brutally used
Where people enter you like a big booth.
Love is like an addictive kind of game.
It can make you happy, yet can cause you ache.
Like a star, you are wanting for more fame
Waiting for the time that your heart will break.
You broke my heart like it was not fragile.
The scars and bruises you gave made me strong.
I thought we’d see each other on the aisle.
But I was mistakenly very wrong.
Now I realize all you said were lies.
All I see in you are dead butterflies.

Someone You Love

A Sonnet by Amaziah Lily Anne de Rosas
Grade 9 - Mercy

Loving someone is never wrong or bad.
Sometimes, it can inspire a person’s mind.
Even on my worst day, you make me glad.
You are the part I never thought I’d find.
You are the sunshine on my darkest day.
You are my destiny and my new hope.
Please stay with me always, just as I pray.
It’s because of you, my worries I cope.
I think of you and often speak your name.
From which, I will never leave you apart.
Every smile we had will be in a frame.
You will always be inside of my heart.
You light up my world like nobody else.
I love you and there is nobody else.

Traveling with Love

A Sonnet by Xandi Alcantara
Grade 9 - Mercy

I’ve always wanted to travel the world
To go to other places and new sites,
To meet new people who’ll make me feel bold,
For those experiences that always bite.
Seems there’s just so many roads to travel,
But I’ve found ways to make use of my time
For those dreams that happened to unravel.
Those churches that I’ve passed  with bells that chime.
My love for travel is a love story:
It’s like a long, crazy rollercoaster
With ups and downs that can make you worry.
Full of mysteries that make you prosper.
Go travel like there is no tomorrow—
A memory that no one can borrow.

Moving On

A Sonnet by Rinson Joy Taborada
Grade 9 - Mercy

Your love is like an ocean full of lies,
Because every time I see you, I fade.
First day I met you, I felt butterflies.
As seasons change, like leaves, they start to fade.
When I thought I had moved on from you,
My feelings came back like a rushing wave.
But then, I now call someone else my boo.
Now it’s time to face the fears and be brave.
My happy moments are suddenly here.
The sadness and pain have finally left.
Now, pick up yourself and smile, my pretty dear
For happiness will never leave you deaf.
Stop the nonsense and gently move on.
For letting go of things is never wrong.

Moving On

A Sonnet by Karl Philip Dondoyano
Grade 9 - Mercy

I loved you to death but I was stupid
To believe the lies I saw in your eyes.
For I thought I was struck by a Cupid
And I believed your river full of lies.
And it hurts to know that you have moved on.
But I guess this is the meaning of love.
Now, I’m waking up and seeing the dawn;
Letting go of the past, just like a dove.
A million mem’ries we shared together
Are slowly starting to fade like a rose.
But I guess we don’t have that forever.
Your like a drug that I was overdosed.
So farewell, my drug, but I’m letting go.
Time to go back to the past and say, "Woah."

My First Heartbreak

A Sonnet by Carl Dominique Yap
Grade 9 - Mercy

When I gazed upon you, I fell for you.
Your eyes shine like a thousand stars, shining.
I’ve tried to find someone to replace you.
I’m left here choosing, crying, and whining.
I’ve tried many times to say I love you
But I can’t say it in front of you, girl.
I’ve tried to send somebody to tell you
How graceful and beautiful are your curls.
Every time I saw you, I pretended.
Every time you passed by, I was happy.
It is not what I really intended
Just to make you realize I was happy.
The last time I saw you was at the end.
But my feelings for you will never end.

Feelings

A Sonnet by Tisha Gail Miranda
Grade 9 - Mercy

I never thought that I would fall for you
For I’ve waited for you a thousand years.
And we’ll be at the church, saying “I do”.
But I have these little kinds of fears
That you will leave me hanging in the air,
Where couples experience pain and heartbreak.
These feelings for you that I cannot bear;
I wouldn’t expect that I’d feel heartache.
But you’re right there when loving me gets hard.
You made me feel like I was a princess
When I felt that my life was in the ward,
And you gave me so much love that was countless.
I am so lucky to have you with me,
Because we sting each other like a bee.
